210 Abbreviated Title (R) (Variable Data Field)
Field 210 contains a title of the item as abbreviated for purposes of indexing or identification. An abbreviated key title is supplied by ISSN centers, based on the Key Title (field 222). Other abbreviated titles are supplied by cataloging agencies, including abstracting and indexing services. The abbreviated title may be created by the agency supplying the field or it may be taken from the piece. The abbreviated title is an agency-assigned data element.
The National level record requirement for this field is Optional.
Field 210 is repeatable.

First Indicator - Title added entry [new, 1977]: Records created prior to the definition of the first indicator in 1977 may contain # (blank) meaning undefined in this position.
Second Indicator - Type [new, 1998]: When field 210 was redefined to include non-key title abbreviations in 1998, value # (blank) was redefined to identify key titles. Value blank in pre-1988 records also identifies key titles since only key title abbreviations allowed in the field before that date.
In 1999, field 210 was renamed from Abbreviated Key Title to Abbreviated Title.
