Configuring Your Browser For Library•Solution


Setting up Mozilla Firefox

  1. Using Mozilla Firefox, go to http://www.itsmarc.com. To complete this procedure a MARC record must be downloaded to work with. Click the New Search button.

  2. In the search dialog that displays, retain the default search settings (All Databases/Titles/contain).

    Type a search term in "the word(s)" field. Use the word "dog" or another common term.

    Then click the Search button to perform a search of ITSMARC for items containing that term.

  3. From the search results list, click an underlined title and the title information will display.

  4. At the top of the screen, just below the ITSMARC banner, click MARC Download.

  5. A logon page will display. Type the User Name (ID) and Password supplied with your subscription to ITSMARC.

    Click the Logon button.

  6. An Opening nnnnnnnnn.dat dialog will display asking What should Firefox do with this file? (where nnnnnnnn is the numeric file name).

    Note: If available, and selected, clear the check box labeled Do this automatically for files like this from now on.

    • The box to the right of the Open with option button will display a suggested program file to use to open the file. Click the drop-down arrow and select Other….

    • A Choose Helper Application dialog will display. From the Look in drop-down list, select the "drive" where Library•Solution Cataloging is installed (usually C:\).

    • Navigate to: Program Files | The Library Corporation | Library.Solution | Cat.

    • In the Cat folder, locate the file named CATREC32App.EXE (or CATREC32App). Select that file so that it is highlighted. The name will display in the File Name box.

    • Click the Open button.

    Note: Depending on your local settings, you may see files without their extensions (i.e., CATREC32App.EXE may display as CATREC32App).

  7. The Opening xxxxxxxxxx.dat dialog will now display CATREC32App.EXE (or CATREC32App) in the Open with box.

    If available, select the check box labeled Do this automatically for files like this from now on.

    Click the OK button.

  8. The MARC Download will begin:

    • If LibrarySolution is active, an Internet Record Save Advice message will display advising MARC Record has been sent to L.S Cataloging.

      Note: Make sure that you click OK to this message EACH time it appears.

      The record will be open in a MARC Editor window, ready for you to edit and save. If you have opened multiple records, they will appear in cascading MARC Editor windows.

    • If LibrarySolution is not active an Internet Record Save Advice message will display advising MARC Record saved to L.S Cataloging queue (i.e. Internet queue).

      Note: Make sure that you click OK to this message EACH time it appears.

      The next time you run LibrarySolution, an Internet Records Advice message will advise You have internet records queued . Click OK.

      You can view the records by selecting Open Internet Queue from the File menu.

Your Mozilla Firefox browser is now prepared for future downloading of MARC records from ITSMARC.
